Clean slate! No desats or brachys!

Excellent progress, with no desaturations or brachycardia recorded overnight. This is a huge step forward and hopefully something that Robin can sustain. Given this situation Robin’s Optiflow (the additional air supply up his nose) has been reduced to 2 litres per minute – and he still showing good oxygenation (ie: he’s breathing happily with less assistance).<\/p>\n

Robin’s progress is so good that the only reason he is still in a isolette is that there aren’t enough open cribs that can accommodate Optiflow. This morning’s nurse Jane was disappointed not to be able to surprise Nicki & Peter with Robin in an open crib when they arrived for a 4.5hour session.<\/p>\n

Even though Peter was only away for a couple of days for a work trip, he could see that Robin looks much bigger, especially compared to another newborn in the crib next door that weighs the same 1200grams that Robin did when he was first born.<\/p>\n

Robin’s still tiny, but growing at an amazing rate, helped by Nicki’s milk and plenty of skin to skin cuddles. Today after a visit from Auntie Lyn, Robin & Nicki had good 90minute kangaroo cuddle, during which he had the only desaturation moments – and these were most likely the measuring cable getting twisted rather than a true recording: his breathing and colour were fine throughout.<\/p>\n
