Day 60

Poppy Roy and Gabi visit

Poppy Roy came to visit today, and watched Nicki give Robin a bottle at lunch time. Because of the vaccinations yesterday, Robin is back on monitors. However, his stats have been fine, so we were able to unplug him and go into a corner of the room to feed him. It was nice for poppy Roy to be able to see how big Robin has grown over the last few weeks.

Nicki went to the NICU parents group and spoke to some of the mums who haven’t been to the group before. Nicki’s friend Gabi also came to visit and was there while Nicki tried to breastfeed. Robin really wasn’t into it today, because he was a bit hot and grumpy, a likely side effect of the vaccinations. I think the end, Nicki gave Robin a gavage feed, but it was about an hour later than it should have been (the nurse who was warming up Robins milk went on break and forgot to give the milk to Nicki – so she had to go find it).

Later in the afternoon, Nicki left to let Robin rest and sleep off the side effects from yesterday. He was looking quite peaceful when he was asleep. We only had him in a nappy and singlet, and wrapped in a single layer to keep his temp down. The nurses will monitor him all night, but it’s completely normal for him to run a little hot after vaccinations. If need be, they will give him a little bit of baby Panadol.
