Day 59

Vaccination day

It was immunisation day today. Robin had his “six week” vaccinations, which normally would be given to a term baby until six week after birth. Robin is now 8 weeks old, over 2.5kgs and over 35 weeks adjusted age, which are the minimum requirements for these immunisations.

He received two injections, one in each leg, which protects him against diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, polio and pneumococcal. He will need 2 more lots of these immunisations over the next year for full protection, so is still vulnerable, but for now it’s a step in the right direction. He also received an oral vaccine for rotavirus.

Knowing that we were going to do the immunisations in the afternoon, Nicki breastfed Robin at midday. He did a really good job, and didn’t need any bottle top up. While he was ha I the injections, he was quite upset, his little face went bright red and let out a big cry. Nicki was there to comfort him and she started to get teary watching him in pain. He settled quite quickly though and was fine in a few minutes.

Emma came to visit in the afternoon, and watched Nicki change robins nappy and bottle feed him. He was very intrigued by her a gave a couple little smiles. He then vomited in Nicki’s lap. Charming Robin, just lovely. He also may have farted a few times.
