Tulum day 5

Tulum day 5

Although Robin seems better, he has a few spots on him. We think it might be insect bites, but we’re keeping an eye on him. I have woken up quite sick, with a sore throat and runny nose. Sam and Peter are also feeling a little under the weather.

Speaking of weather, it has been hot hot hot here! We’ve also caught the tail end of a hurricane (of course) so we are getting afternoon thunder storms and rough seas.

After a Mexican style (lazy) morning, we all went to the Tulum Ruins. These are Mayan ruins that are very close to town. We got some great pics of the ruins, but it was really hot and Robin was starting to get unhappy. We stayed for an hour or so, before getting an ice-cream and heading for the beach.

The beach was lovely, but just as we were walking there from the ruins, it started to pour with rain. Afternoon downpour right on schedule! We didn’t mind much, since it’s so hot. We got to the beach, and it cleared up after about 10 minutes.

The waves were a bit too big for Robin, and he clung tightly to me. While Sam and Peter went swimming, Robin and I sat at the waters edge and played with the later as it hit our feet and legs. Robin really liked the feel of the sand through his fingers. He even tried to eat some haha!

For dinner, Peter chose a really wonderful Incan restaurant. Most of the food around here is either Mexican/Spanish or Mayan. Incan food is different, and we all had really amazing dinners. One of the tapas style entrees was orange with chilli grasshoppers! I had chicken with black mole, which is like a chocolate sauce without the sugar. It is made with cocoa beans as the base. Yum!

Sam had a stuffed pepper, and Peter had a red peanut sauce on chicken. Peter and I shared ours.

After dinner we went for a walk around the Main Street of Tulum, and looked at all the shops and restaurants. It seemed to be quite quiet, but we could imagine how chaotic it would be in the high season! It was still hot, so nice to retreat to our apartment for air-conditioning and bed.
