Day 4

First kangaroo cuddle with dad.

Robin is doing well under the circumstances. Now breathing virtually unassisted with an “Optiflow” line under his nose (like you’ll see on most people who stay in hospital, except he’s just on normal Air, not Oxygen or a Nitrox mix). He’s getting great milk from Nicki all the time, and no longer needs an IV for antibiotics.

He’s been getting phototherapy to reduce jaundice, which means more of the sunglasses.

For reference – this is happening very quickly for a 27-week (now 28-week) baby. He still has 24/7 monitoring and care with a dedicated nurse, but every time we visit we’re told he’s doing very well. Let’s hope he continues to overachieve still quite a few weeks to go…

Brain scans came back – all ok (no haemorrhaging) .

Stats:

Weight: 1115grams (but it’s normal to lose weight in the first few days)

Nurses: Amanda & Lynne

Optiflow down to 4L/min
