Adelaide to Auckland

Adelaide to Auckland

We were up reasonably early to get to the airport this morning. The taxi arrived, and we only just managed to get us and all the luggage in! Nicki had ordered a station wagon, but a normal sedan turned up.

We arrived early to the airport, but it took quite a while to check in. The lovely air NZ woman moved us up into the premium economy section so we could have a bit of extra room, and booked Nicki in a window seat & peter in the isle seat, with the hope that none would take the vacant middle seat. The plan worked and we had a row to ourselves. Thanks Air NZ!

Once checked in, we headed to the Virgin lounge, and they updated Robins high flyer passport with another stamp. After a quick coffee and tea, we went through customs, before a short wait, then we boarded and off we went! The flight was delayed slightly (20mins) but had very strong tail winds, so we actually arrived earlier than scheduled.

Robin had a bit if a sleep in the flight, then some milk, and was quite full just before we started to descend. We had a bit of turbulence, which Robin thought was very entertaining! Unfortunately, since babies need to swallow to clear their ears, being full meant he didn’t want to feed during descent. The poor little buba screamed and cried real tears for about 25 minutes before we landed. It seemed like hours, and broke Nicki’s & Peter’s hearts. Robin is normally very chilled, so to hear him in such distress was very sad.

Once the plane landed though, he was fine and loved looking out of the window of the taxi on the way to the hotel, since he was on Nicki’s lap instead of in his capsule. It was the first time he could see out of a car window, and was entranced by the city lights.

The trio checked in at the Crown Plaza, then headed out for dinner at a local Turkish restaurant. Robin slept through the meal, which was nice for Nicki & Peter to have a break.

After dinner it was back to the hotel, and an early night for all.
