Wow! What a day! Robin is finally off of monitors! There is so much happiness and freedom with no wires or cords. He has been so stable without caffeine and over the last week, that he no longer requires constant monitoring or three hourly stats checks. When Nicki arrived today, Robin’s cot had been moved out of his little room onto the main floor, in front of the nurses station. There are a few corners with hospital curtains and chairs, so now Nicki just wheels his cot into a corner and camps there with him for the day. Everything is so much easier now, from changing his nappy, to dressing him, weighing him, cuddling and just moving around.
Aunty Tania came to visit today, just after Robin had a successful breastfeeding session. Though we’re not sure exactly how much milk he drank, he really got the suck,swallow, breathe pattern happening. Tania held Robin whilst Nicki changed all of Robins bedding (he’d had a bit of a spew before Nicki got there today) Robin was very polite, and didn’t spew any milk on Tania, though he did do some farts and poo, just cuz she’s family 😉
Granny Ramone came in and helped Nicki give Robin a bath. He certainly enjoyed it, though he may have got a little bit cold as we were drying him. He needed a bath today after the ‘spills’ out both ends earlier 😉 Now that he doesn’t have any monitors, we have a whole new range of fashionable clothes for him, that he wasn’t able to wear previously. The zips on some of his onesies weren’t compatible with his oximeter, as the cord would gave had to stick out of his collar (very uncomfortable )
In the evening, Nicki tried to breastfeed again. This time wasn’t very successful. Robin just wasn’t interested in trying, so instead, Nicki tried to give him his milk (which has been increased to 55mls) from a bottle. We need to get him on at least one oral feed per day before he comes home. He was a superstar and drank 40mls from the bottle before collapsing in an exhausted milk coma. Well done Robin (aka Chubs)! The final 15mls was gavage fed to him by Nicki whist he slept soundly.
