Day 53

Nappy rash

Not much happened today, Robin is stable, and we are still trying breastfeeding. He has had no trouble without the caffeine, so we should be off of monitors tomorrow! Hooray! Once we are off monitors though, it means we will loose our little comfy room, and Robin’s cot will be moved out onto the floor.

Nicki went to the NICU parents group, which was run by the Nurture Group this week. The Nurture Group as a group of parents who have had a premie baby before. They run a special mothers / parents playgroup for kids with weakened immune systems, so it’s a safe place for all of the kids to mingle, socialise and play. They take extra precautions like disinfecting all the furniture and toys, and have a strict policy that no one comes if they are sick. In the parents group, Nicki made a Christmas decoration with Robins name on it.

Robins weight is back over 2.5kg, so hopefully it will stay up there now! He has got a bit of a nappy rash, most likely due to the fact that he poos every hour. Unfortunately the nurses only check is nappy before a feed, so it only gets changed once every three hours when Nicki isn’t here. To treat it, we have some bepanthen cream and stomahesive powder. Hopefully this will help it clear up soon, but if not, Nicki will be asking that they change his nappy more regularly until his bottom heals. He doesn’t seem fussed by it at all though, so that’s good.
